X has faced a backlash after reports that users of its AI chatbot had prompted it to create sexualised images of people, including children.
Elon Musk-backed xAI has been missing in action for a while now, but today, Musk teased a major upgrade for Grok alongside new products.
It seems that instead of updating Grok to prevent outputs of sexualized images of minors, X is planning to purge users generating content that the platform deems illegal, including Grok-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Grok, X's AI chatbot, generates about 6,700 sexually suggestive images per hour — roughly 85 times more than the five largest alternative platforms combined. Victims report their complaints are dismissed by X's moderation system.
Controversy erupted on X after users were found exploiting Grok to edit and manipulate photographs, including digitally undressing people — among them children — or portraying them in minimal clothing such as bikinis.
Leaked details regarding xAI's Grok 5 suggest a massive platform shift, boasting six trillion parameters and native video understanding.
Following the update on Friday, Elon Musk also posted on X to warn users saying that anyone who asks the AI to generate illegal content would "suffer the same consequences" as if they uploaded it themselves.
