Predawn light, chilly ocean breeze and one majestic osprey perched atop a “bird strike” pole. These poles were placed along the top of a bridge to prevent cars from striking birds. It’s brilliant and it reduced car strikes almost completely. Instead of flying directly over the bridge and crashing into traffic, the birds fly over the poles which are taller than the incoming traffic. Dominant ospreys in the area use the poles as perches.
