Nerikomi and neriage are Japanese ceramic techniques that involve colouring clays with various pigments and using coloured clays to build the whole vessel. The key difference is that nerikomi is used whilst referring to hand building while neriage is specifically for pieces created on the potter’s wheel. “komi” means to press, referring to hand-building, and “age” means to pull up, referring to wheel-throwing.
