How to Write Numbers in Expanded Form

When teaching expanded form I teach my kiddos the following: 1. Expanded form means: the sum of the values of the digits 2. I have them draw out the place value chart to help them determine the value of each digit 3. Once they get how to do expanded form I show them that we can do expanded form in more than one way by continuing to decompose (to break apart) 3. Flip: even if we flip the hundreds, tens, ones we will still get the same sum : example 500 60 7 = 567 and so does 7 60 500 = 567 Commen
