In Hip-Hop, the myth of the lone inventor suggests that lone geniuses create specific techniques within the four elements (DJing, MCing, Breaking, Graffiti). However, the reality is that innovations develop gradually over time. Using DJing as an example, and drawing on evolutionary theory along with various evidence, I argue that "beat juggling" is actually the result of combining previously separate ideas. In other words, it's inaccurate to credit one person with the "creation" of beat juggling
